Prime Arts Review

About

Prime Arts Review is an English-language publication for curious readers who want to spend time with the arts. We range across visual art, music, theatre, literature and craft, attending to how creative work is made, presented and understood.

A broad arts table

The arts do not keep to tidy borders. A theatre piece may turn on language and design; a song can carry a tradition as well as a melody. Our coverage moves between forms while giving each subject its proper setting, vocabulary and history.

For attentive readers

Our readers may be newcomers, longtime enthusiasts or simply people with a spare moment and a question. We explain useful terms, describe what there is to notice and avoid assuming specialist knowledge. The aim is company for looking and listening, not a verdict readers must adopt.

A measured approach

We favour clear description, relevant context and a willingness to distinguish observation from interpretation. We do not treat a work as a puzzle with one hidden answer, nor a tradition as something fixed for all time. Each piece should leave readers better equipped to form their own view.
